Sponsored Food Review: Beanstro by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
An American style casual dining
located conveniently at the heart of Orchard Road.
located conveniently at the heart of Orchard Road.
Beanstro Takashimaya
391 Orchard Road
#B1-37
Ngee Ann City
Singapore 238872
Tel: 62351610
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday; 8am - 11pm
I love the play of word,
Instead of bistro, it became Beanstro.
Cozy Interior,
Extremely Kiddy Friendly!
Plenty of hand-crafted beverages that left us spoilt for choices.
Garlic Butter Bread ($6.00)
There was definately MORE than what you see here.
We could resist,
everyone ended up "pinching"
even before I could get a decent shot of it!!
Yummy, you could hear the crisp crackling sound in your ears
when you sink your teeth into them!
Soup of the Day
Mushroom Soup ($8.00)
That is 1 really Big Bowl of Mushroom Soup
For the Records, Hiroshi finished it all by himself!!
That's just how much he loves mushroom soup.
In fact, he has that in school every single day!
Talk about being faithful!
However, I was expecting thick creamy mushroom soup.
Tuna Nicoise Salad ($19.00)
Again American Size
Not your usual salad.
Caesar Salad ($13.00)
Since beanstro is a halal-certified restaurant,
the bacon you see here is turkey bacon.
We love it!
Less fattening and a healthier choice!
Sirlion Steak ($24.00)
I believe that sauce should be used to compliment a dish and not overwhelm it.
And in this case, the sauce was perfect.
Either that, or perhaps,
being Australlian grass fed cows made the difference!
I still could taste the real beefy taste.
I asked for it to be done medium rare.
It was done perfectly to my liking.
Brown on the outside and pinkish inside.
Vongole ($26.50)
Squid Ink Spaghetti with New Zealand littleneck clams.
Our votes were unanimous for this one.
We love it!
Chili padi added to this dish makes an interesting twist to boring old vongole.
Seafood wrapped in Cartoccio ($26.00)
Fettuccine with spiny lobster, scallops & blue mussel in spicy tomato sauce
wrapped in parchment paper.
Really fresh seafood cooked to perfection.
Plus the presentation of opening the parchment paper infront of my eyes,
I was already won over even before digging in!
I dunno what got into us.
We over did dessert!
Hiroshi had Chicago Cheesecake ($8.00)
Yes! The whole piece to himself again!
Sophia opted for Warm Molton Chocolate Cake ($10.00)
Peach Mango Blended Swirl Yoghurt ($6.50)
The manager ordered this on behalf of the kids,
because he thinks that the kids would like it.
He was right!
The kids absolutely loved it!
I swear they polished the cup real clean!!!
Tiramisu ($10.00)
The tiramisu I had in Italy when I was flying spoil market.
the rest seems to pale in comparison.
Creme Brulee ($10.00)
I had my 1st creme brulee in Paris.
I can still clearly remember the rich soft custard base
topped against the contrasting layer of hard caramel,
It was definitely a match made in heaven!
That's my niece Joey who is staying with me
while she waits out her "A" level results.
I thought that was a pretty good creme brulee,
however Kitson thought otherwise.
It was definitely value for money.
Since everything came
SUPER AMERICAN SIZE.
You can have breakfast at any time of the day at Beanstro!
And for the egg lovers,
be spoiled for choices.
Have your eggs the anyway you want them!
Breakfast Steak and Eggs ($19.00)
Classic Egg Benedict ($17.00)
Worthy of another visit.
Love the service rendered by the restaurant manager; Steven and his staffs.
Extremely pleasant dining experience!
BabyHiroshi was invited for a Food Tasting Session at Beanstro.
Views and opinions are my own.

Food Review: Yam's Kitchen | Ehub! Downtown East
We review it so that you can save your calories for better food.
Remember in my last Foodie Friday posting I was raving about Yam's Kitchen?
My curiosity got the better of me.
I kept thinking about it all week.
If the starters could tantalize my taste buds so much,
the main course should (by right) blow me right outta my seat
This calls for an emergency trip to Yam's Kitchen for Lunch.
Vegetable with mushrooms in superior stock
Unique,
but it is also something that I could outta my own kitchen.
Yam's Kitchen Tofu
Seems to be homemade.
Smooth and nice.
But, sauce a tad too sweet for my liking.
Oyster Sauce Chicken
When I asked Kitson, "how's the chicken?"
His reply was chicken LOH!
So What Oyster Sauce are we talking about here?
Deep fried fish with garlic and chilli
This one seems to be the saving grace of the whole meal.
Crispy fried fish in slightly spicy but tangy sauce.
With all honesty, I was a little disappointed with the food.
Perhaps the benchmark was already set in my last visit
and having to beat it seems to be like a very tall order.
But still,
it is a nice place to visit for
finger food and desert.

Food Review: The Good and the Bad from Ehub! Downtown East.
We review it so that you can save your calories for better food.
Buddy Hoagies Cafe & Grill

#02-126 Downtown East
Tel: 65821477Fax: 65827076
The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and cozy.
A perfect place for catching up over beers.
Mushroom Soup that came with the Set Meal
Nothing fancy, tasted just like those you could get right out of a can.
New York Steak
Sides: Mac&Cheese & Baked Potato
It does look really promising,
but, it has failed the taste test.
For the price paid,
I would say Aston would be a better dinning choice in comparative to Buddy Hoagies.
Food was edible, but not enjoyable.
Service staff were nonchalant.
Will return for a beer,
but never a meal!
Asli Satay Club
Stall 19, Asli Village
#01-03, 1 Pasir Ris Close,
Downtown East.
I love people who make a difference in the work they do.
Other than the conventional satays, which they call Original satays.
They had a choice of tender satays as well.
I was told that other than being more tender than the original satays,
tender satays were less sweet as well.
The aroma of satays whet my appetite!
Many other "exotic" satay choices includes;
Duck, Babat, Paru, Hati, Chicken Hot n Spicy, Mushroom.
They even had BBQ Prawn & Baby Octopus
Both kids were polishing up their satays in lighting speed.
The only setback was the satay sauce.
what a pity, if they had better sauce,
I am sure this satay experience would be out of this world!
We were almost filled to our very brim.
But, since the kids said they were still hungry,
we hunted for more yummy food to entice our taste buds.
We stumbled upon
Yam's Kitchen
1 Pasir Ris Close
#04-101 Downtown East
Tel:
65845884Fried Fish Skin
Oh Gawd!
Tasted like crunchy hot koropok.
Instant hit with the kids!!
Prawn Rolls
I didn't care much for the prawn rolls.
It's same old same old with the ones I had elsewhere.
But the sauce for the Prawn Roll was good.
Very balanced in tasting. I like!
Friend Pumpkins with Salted Eggs
They call this the Chinese French fries.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ONE!
Bean Curd with Hashima
Sophia polished up all the good stuffs.
She's a real foodie!
Azzura Gelati Ice Cream
These ice cream are imported from Australia.
And the owners are selling them really close to cost price,
We even get to meet the chef and owner; Mr Yam
Thank you for the great food!
Will definitely make another trip for main courses!

Sponsored Review: Fat Fish Thai Steamboat Restaurant
I've always loved the notion of steamboat buffets.
Especially so on cold rainy days.
They are like comfort food for the stomach,
warming both hearts and souls.
We were invited to food tasting at Fat Fish Steamboat Restaurant.
Conveniently tucked near the main entrance of Ehub! at Downtown East,
You wouldn't miss it for it's attractive store front.
Since we wanted to experience both the
Special Chicken Soup Base
and Signature Tom Yam Soup.
we choose to have our steamboat yin-yang style!
Judging from the looks of our soup base served up to us,
we weren't optimistic about it's taste.
But, we were proven wrong.
Humbling ourselves.
Learning to not judge a book by it's cover.
Special Chicken Soup Base;
a full bodied clear broth,
adding a tinge of sweetness once it touches the palate.
Signature Tum Yam Soup;
It does taste like it was done from scratch!
Flavorful, but yet not overwhelming .
It turns out,
they really did have a Thai Head Chef
with over 30 years of dedicated experience
cooking up this yummy Tom Yam broth fresh everyday!
Signature Fragrance Chilli Sauce
I have tasted nothing like this in my life!
Die Die MUST Have!
Sauce Galore!
Premium Items
ltor: Fish Glue, Fish Maw, Sea Cucumber, Scallop & Kurobuta
Fish Glue is apparently PURE fish paste.
The "correct" method of handling this delicate dish is to give it a hot bath.
Handmade Chicken Ball and Pork Meat Ball
A Must-Have in Every Steamboat Buffet Menu.
Fresh Succulent Prawns!
Thinly sliced Pork Belly & Thinly sliced Pork Collar
Simple Yong Tau Foo
Beef Fillet & Thinly Sliced Beef
They even have see-ham!!!
Satisfied my cravings.
Dip this into the Signature Fragrance Chilli Sauce;
A match made in Heaven!!!
Assorted Vegetables and Mushrooms
However, please note that drinks are NOT inclusive in this buffet.
Our personal favorite drinks were the Pink Guava and Kalamazi.
Overall dinning experience was pleasant.
Staffs were friendly and helpful.
Cozy Environment,
Perfect for Gatherings!
