Horizon Primary School's Field Trip To Bukit Timah Hill

By default,
I do not get excited over at the thoughts of climbing hills.
But, since it was Hiroshi's field trip to Bukit Timah Hill....
And parents were invited to join in the day of fun outdoor learning.
I gladly oblige.
With a good reason like this,
It was way easier to lift those droopy eye lids and drag those heavy feet.

Doe-Eyed Hiroshi
all ready to explore Bukit Timah Hill

We took the green route which was route number 3.

First, we took the South View Path

The kids were all pumped up for an adventure!!

Happy Kids at our first Station.
South View Hut

Our family still looking Great!!

After a little rest,
we moved on.
This time round, we went on the Cave Path.

If you paid careful attention to small details,
you could even catch these hard working ants working their butts off.

We saw tunnels that were used in world war 2.

And even a little spring water catchment area.
Water was clear and refreshingly cooling.

2nd checkpoint; Catchment Hut

Hiroshi still very energetic!

Sophia having a good time too!

And James woke up from his nap,
coz daddy stopped walking!!

Onwards we trail!
This time round we went on the Catchment Path.

I was seriously falling behind!

Thank God!
It was only a short walk till we reach our 3th checkpoint.
Simpang Hut

After a short rest,
we forge on to our last and final checkpoint!

Enjoying the greenery as we walk.
Really majestic looking trees!!!

Fungus growing on wood.

Before I know it,
we've reached the top.
The Summit Hut!

Kids had a little snack at the Summit Hut.
It was amazing to see them barter trading their snacks with their friends.

For me, I am just glad that we are FINALLY there!
If I had to climb another inch,
I would have flopped myself onto Kitson
and asked to be carried like James too!

The way down was more enjoyable.
No more trail.
But, however,
we were greeted with very very steep downward slopes!

Engaged Learning

Kids were excited to see a gigantic ant!

Sophia says,
"He ain't heavy, He's my brother!"

Once everyone reached base,
It was lunch time followed by quiz.

Hiroshi was deeply engrossed with facts in the exhibition hall.

Kudos to these external trainers
who made this trip extremely educational

We had to applaud the school too.
For their initiative of allowing families to join in the trip.

For once, Sophia really felt like a big girl.
Tagging along with all the older Primary 2 kids.
And blending in really well!
She is well accustomed
and ready to embark on her primary one next year!

And as for me,
my muscles are still aching from the most strenuous exercise I had in years!!

Magical Moments @ Horizon | A Storytelling Workshop

Yet another well organized event
by Parents Connect
of Horizon Primary School.

Hiroshi has been looking forward to this event ever since we registered for it.
The agenda seems like a day of fun,
filled with plenty of opportunities to keep the kids occupied.

Kids were encouraged to dress up to the theme of "Magical Moments".
And Hiroshi choose to turn up as
Hiroshi; the Neverland Pirate.
Hey Matey!

We started off the morning with a book talk
by local author Otto Fong.
Amazing Author that Revolutionize the Learning of Science.
Former Teacher of Raffles Institute,
is the author of Sir Fong's Adventures in Science.
A comic series that uses cartoon to teach science.

Book Sale with Attractive Discounts!

First Story of the day
was Presented by Aunty Irene Lim.
The Wolf who Cried Boy.
Amusing Story.
The ending of the story was also deliberately left out
for us to brainstorm
for our very own creative endings!

Hiroshi totally enchanted by the story tellers!

We had a Special Celebrity Guest Appearance;
Abigail Chay
I like her character when she acted as Aunty Abigail
in Under One Roof
many many donkey years ago!
Where she wailed loudly on top of her cup of tea then asked
"why my tea so salty?!?!?"

Abigail mesmerizing the kids with magic show!

Aunty Avelyn read the second story of the day.
The Boy from the Dragon Palace.
It teaches one to be contented with what they already have in life.

When the kids tried to snort like the boy from the dragon palace,
Magical things happened.....
It rained candy canes!

Aunty Tracie read our last story of the day.
Oh! What a Christmas!

Kids pretending to fly.
Helping Santa to get his sleighs flying,
so that he is able to deliver all the presents in time.

Time to get crafty.
In the process of making our very own
Magical Snow Globe.

Beautiful DIY Snow Globes
What did you wished for this Christmas?

We sang Silly Christmas Songs;
The Reindeer Pokey.

The event ended in a perfect note
with Mrs Ang the Principal
giving away Christmas goodies to everyone!

We truly enjoyed ourselves.
And we are already looking forward to the next Parent Connect event!

This is what a little imagination could get you.
The possibilities are endless.
My $2 Diaso Reindeer Hairband
& Awesome Makeup Skills
made me
Irene the red nose DIVA reindeer!

Wishing "deer" readers
Merry Christmas in advance!

Horizon Primary School Parents-Connect Casual BBQ Gathering.....

We did pray for good weather.
But, It rained.
It rained the whole of today!!!

Well, by right it should be a mood damper.
But, on the contrary,
we had bucket loads of good fun!!!

Our gathering was moved to the nearby multi purpose hall.
And since it rained the whole of today.....
The weather was exceptionally cooling!

1 hour prior to the gathering,
Frantic whatsapp messages were making it's round.
In the moment of despair,
we manage to get 2 portable BBQ pits,
Tables, Chairs & even Picnic Mats.....

So,
the fun MUST go on.....

Bbq Hdb Style
 Proactive Horizon fathers
taking charge to get bbq food ready for everyone!
Many Many Thanks!!!

While the mothers do what they do best.
Chat, Look Pretty and Network
*big fat evil grin*

For once,
no kids were seen holding hand held games.
Everyone behaved like kampung kids.
Running wild and having Fun!!

All these wouldn't have been possible if we didn't synergize.
Good job Horizon Parents,
we are leading by example!

Horizon Mothers

Horizon Fathers

Strangely, it was much easier to gather the kids for a photo
than we first thought it would be.
Thumbs Up for well behaved kids!

We are already looking forward to the next Parents-Connect event.
But for now,
I will carry my contented belly home and slip into lalaland.
Good Night Folks!

Horizon Primary School Official Opening Ceremony

It felt as though I was experiencing a milestone of my own child.
Official Opening Ceremony.

It was Graced by
Education Minister; Mr Heng Swee Keat

Having gone through
10 years of compulsory education in Singapore,
I've not seen a school like this one!

I strongly believe that this school has what it takes to succeed.
And even soar to greater heights,
because of the values they are instilling in our future leaders.

The school has adopted Stephen R. Covey's
7 Habits of Happy Kids in their Curriculum.
I am glad to say that it has worked very well for Hiroshi.
When I say
"Put first thing first",
Hiroshi would then automatically
prioritize, focus,
and do what is important first....

Even the Musical;
The Wizard of Horizon
which was put up for the opening night
has so much great values within the storyline.

Instilling Good Values is clearly an Important part for this school.

The principal Mrs Ang is simply extraordinary,
she is probably THE ONLY Principal
who receives her students at the gate every morning.

The Vice Principal Madam Anita is equally as commemorable,
She takes the effort to read the school a storybook
at the courtyard every Thursday.

The teachers are dedicated,
proactively helping student with weaker grades
by coming in earlier before the school hours starts.

Left to Right: Mrs Ang & Mdm Anita

And if you think that's not quite enough to be the winning team,
We've even got a group of committed parent volunteers
working closely with the school.

You just won't believe the amount of synergy we have in this wonderful team!
The fact was,
we were given a very tall task.
20 parents,
3 tasks,
(change the kids into costumes, apply make-up, and complete hair-do)
for 250 kids,
in 3 hours.

Though I still find it hard to believe,
but we did it!
All in UNDER 3 hours!

Hiroshi was part of the
250 Mass Tambourine Dancers
at the courtyard
receiving the Education Minister;
 Mr Heng Swee Keat

The countless hours of training definitely has paid off.
AWESOME PERFORMANCE!!

I am Obviously Self Obsessed with my Son.

I am looking forward to 6 years of fabulous primary school education
with Hiroshi and Horizon Primary School!
