Oppsy Daisy.... BumPaDiBump on Sophia's forehead~~

Sophia tripped and fell flat on the floor hitting her forehead
at home last night before bed time....

She didn't scream the house down,
just whimper a little, then picked up herself and ran again....

So I didn't think much about the fall and tuck her to bed.

This morning when I woke up,
I noticed that her eyes look somehow WRIED!
Yes indeed, it is!
There was swelling in the sinus region....
which spreads to the inner corners of her eyes....

Her once beautiful hidden double eye lid
turned into a puffy lump...

Oh my poor little girl....
DSC04560.jpg picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

During breakfast at MacDonald's, strangers walking by
couldn't help it but steal a second glance at Sophia.....

Coz the bump was really OBVIOUS
and it is affecting her appearance!

Some even told me to rub HOT hard boil egg
wrapped in a cloth in the affected area....

Since it is Sunday, Dr Lilian our usual PD for the kids
is not open for business...
And, I don't really want to see the doctors at KKH,
they usually makes my blood boil
due to their incompetent attitude towards treating a patient!
(And the doctors in the emergency units usually looks like
gong gong freshie that don't know what they are doing!)
I had to call Dr Lilian on the emergency number.

After a short chat, she convinced me
that everything was going to be fine.
Since there wasn't any sign of concussion.

What's define as a concussion?!?
-Can't be awakened
-Has one pupil (the black part of the eye)
that's larger than the other
-Has convulsions or seizures
-Has slurred speech
-Seems to be getting more confused, restless, or agitated

And I was adviced to do
COLD COMPRESSION
on the affected area.

So the next time your kids gets a bump,
don't roll the HOT hard boil egg on the affected site!!
It's obviously not going help and it is making it worst!!

Please remember
COLD COMPRESSION
not hot!!!!

Expected beginning, Eventful Ending....

I booked a makeover with  Majolica Majorca a couple of  days ago....
Started my day on a happy note
that I will be pampered like a princess
with a FREE makeover!!
(even got FREE lip gloss after makeover leh!!)

When I was attending professional make up lessons
 many donkey years ago,
my makeup trainer, Ginn told me
to never step out of the house without makeup....
Oh boy.... Now I'm sure you can see why!
DSC04540.jpg picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

Make up artist and myself after the makeover....
Did I look any better?!?

Myself and the EX Stomp Star Blogger, Nadia
She used to  be my makeup model
for my makeup portfolio many donkey years back....

After the makeover, I brought the kids to the playground at Paragon
to burn off some excess pent up energy....
Now, the strategy is to get them dead tired,
so that I could window shop in peace later.....

And, it is with such coincidence that I bump into my Aunty Pat!!
................................
And the whole jing gang of aunties, cousins, niece, and nephews!!
So we ended up shopping and having dinner all together....

How to build a better bento: Goshiki & Goho

Based on traditional Japanese cuisine,
the concept of goshiki (five colors)
calls for the cook to include at least one dish from each color group,
thereby creating a meal that meets various nutritional needs
and is pleasing to behold.

Red or orange
Carrots, kabocha squash, red bell peppers,
umeboshi (pickled apricots), kidney beans, dried cranberries,
akajiso (also known as red shiso), kidney beans, adzuki beans,
tomatoes, salmon, pork, beef, oranges,
tangerines, watermelon, strawberries,
raspberries, apples, salsa

White
Rice, enoki mushrooms, daikon, tofu and soy products,
cauliflower, feta cheese, white beans, potatoes, bamboo shoots,
turnips, renkon lotus root, white fish, chicken, onions,
white sesame seeds, bean sprouts, pears, leeks,
garbanzo beans, hummus, jicama

Black (also purple or brown)
Black olives, mushrooms (shiitake, maitake, portabello),
sea vegetables of kombu, hijiki, wakame or nori,
black sesame seeds, eggplant, gobo (burdock root), red cabbage,
grapes, prunes, raisins, black cherries, grape leaves, figs,
plums, blackberries, blueberries, purple cabbage, tapenade

Yellow
Pineapple, yellow beans, eggs, sweet potatoes, sweet corn,
grapefruit, nectarines, peaches, lemons,
yuba, squash, plantains, banana

Green
Broccoli, spinach, green beans, green bell pepper, cucumbers,
asparagus, aojiso (also known as green shiso), fava beans,
cabbage, sprouts, broccoli rabe, edamame, scallions,
nira (chives), kiwi, celery, kale,
Brussels sprouts, zucchini, pesto

The Second Rule
Try to employ goho, or five cooking methods
Choose from grilling, frying, simmering,
steaming, pickling and boiling.

Hiroshi's Bento Box

Fried rice
Yakiniku chicken
Stir fried sweet peas, carrots and ikan bilis
Ketchup in birdie container
DSC04530.jpg picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

I am trying to apply the Japanese 3:1:2 bento rules here,
3 parts grains = Fried Rice
1 parts protein = Yakiniku Chicken
2 part = Stir fried sweet peas with carrot & ikan bilis

Try to draw imaginary lines, diving your bento box into 6 parts,
and start filling them in with yummy food.....

I personally feel that there is no hard and fast rules
in packing a bento box.
No point just "follow law" ,
and the kid comes home with food untouched.

You'll be surprised how quickly kids take their meals,
when it is served in a bento box....
(they even asked for MORE, MORE, MORE....
Be prepared,
Be forewarned!!
To be woken up by your kids every morning
for that delicious bento lunch!)

Have you ever wanted to start on the bento making journey
but didn't know where or how to?!?!

Let's start by getting the SIZE of the lunch box right....

As usual, the Japanese people are great in rigid stuffs....
especially when it comes to measurements....

In Japan, bento box size is described not by it's dimensions.
it' described in volume or capacity .

Why?

Because a rule of thumb in Japan is that
when you pack a bento box normally
(A: 3 parts grain dishes, 1 part protein dishes,
2 parts vegetable dishes;
 B: without candy, junk food or fatty food;
and C: without empty space),
calories correspond directly to capacity.
So a 400ml box should hold 400-calorie meal.

Step 1:
Determine age & height

Women
erabikata-5.gif picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

Man
erabikata-3-1-1.gif picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

1st column: Age
2nd column: Height
3rd column: Calories/Meal
4th column: Size of lunch box needed in ml

Step 2:
Final adjustment according to the level of physical activity & height

Physical activity:
Level 1: Low (spend most of your time sitting or quiet)
Level 2: Moderate
Level 3: High (lots of exercise, sports, etc.)

Adjust the size of the bento box for your height and physical activity:

Add 100ml to your bento box size for:
Taller than average height
High physical activity (Level 3)

Subtract 100ml from your bento box size for:
Shorter than average height
Low physical activity (Level 1)

Now that you know what size of a bento box you need....
Isn't it time to get your butt off that seat,
eyes off that screen...
and start shopping for a super KAWAII bento box?!?

This picture reminds me of
the famous `FOOTPRINTS' ....

DSC04461.jpg picture by fattyb0mb0mb0m

`One night a man had a dream.

He dreamt he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.

For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened
at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him
and he questioned the Lord about it.

"Lord, You said that once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that
during the most troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.

I don't understand why
when I needed you most you would leave me."

The Lord replied,
"My son, My precious child, I love you and I would
never leave you. During your times of trial and
suffering, when you see only one set of footprints,

it was then that I Carried You."

Isn't it comforting to know that GOD is with us all the time?
